Sampaguita(philippines national flower)

Sampaguita is a white flower with a single or double layers of fragrant petals. According to folklore, its name was derived from a lover's promise to his lady fair: "Sumpa kita" translated as: "I promise you."  It opens at night and droops in less than a day. The white flowers are often made into wreath and its extract made into perfumes. Sampaguita is not a tree but a woody vine.

The flower called Sampaguita (Jasmine variety) by the filipinos was adopted as the National Flower of Philippines in 1934. It also happens to be the National Flower of Indonesia.

The National Flower of the Republic of China was officially designated as the Plum Blossom by the Executive Yuan of the Republic of China on July 21, 1964. The plum blossom, known as the meihua, is symbol for resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity, because plum blossoms often bloom most vibrantly even amidst the harsh winter snow.

The plum blossom is a distinctive and unique flower because it blooms in the dead of winter, while there is still snow on the branches of the parent tree. The flowers emerge before the leaves, and they are pale white with oval-shaped petals. Many people cut sprays of plum blossoms to use as cut flowers in the home and as decorations around the lunar new year, an important holiday in Asian culture. Plum blossoms also appear as decorative motifs in traditional garments such as kimonos, and they often appear in jewelry, executed in precious metals, ivory, wood, and various gems.

Lotus scientifically known as Nelumbo Nucifera is the National Flower of India. It is a sacred flower and occupies a unique position in the art and mythology of ancient India and has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture since time immemorial.


The Lotus Flower symbolizes divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and enlightenment. It is also regarded as a symbol of triumph as it can survive to regerminate for thousands of years. Lotus represents long life, honor, and good fortune. Untouched by the impurity despite growing in mud, the flower is also meant to symbolize the purity of heart and mind.


Apart from India, Lotus is also the national flower of Vietnam. In Egypt the Lotus Flowers are considered to auspicious because they are regarded as the symbol of Sun God.

Golden Wattle (Australia national flower)

The Golden Wattle, Acacia pycnantha, is Australia's national flower. Golden wattle grew naturally in the Australian Capital Territory and had other desirable features including design potential, it enjoyed popular acceptance as Australia's national flower. It was proclaimed Australia's national flower in 1988, the year of Australia's bicentenary.
